The Surname Moore

Moore is a maternal GG Grandmother's family name. It's origin is usually thought to be from someone who lived near a moor or who was dark-skinned (a Moor).

My Moores are originally from Worcestershire in the mid 1700s, my earliest known ancestor being Francis Moore who was buried in 1770. This descendant report shows all descendants from him in my tree except where it joins the Dyer descendant report. A link joins the two reports.

My aunt has handed down to her a bundle of correspondence and papers from the mid 1820s to the 1880s which consists mainly of letters to my GG Grandmother Sarah Moore from her mother, brother, sisters and friends. I have had no success in finding any record of Jane's baptism in possible parishes in Staffordshire. Neither have I found her family in the 1841 or 1851 censuses before her marriage in Handsworth in 1857. (The searches have not been exhaustive).
